Reviews
The hotel building is just fantastic, and the spa section is very, very good! We had a corner room with the bathroom in one of the turrets. It was just outstanding!
The restaurant is above average and the food is tasty and well presented. All in all we are satisfied with the service, but the check-in and check-out could have been smoother.
Writing this review, I have a mixed feelings. Let's start with good things:||The place is beautifull and is literally an essence of tranquility. We had a modern room with a view to a parc and it was so awesome! Taking a sunbed and sit under …
We stayed here as part of a Backroads cycling trip through Provence. The property is beautiful but our room itself was a bit dated, tired and very small. We did, however, have a fabulous dinner here! One of our favorite meals in Provence.
Beautiful place in a park. 15 min away from Orange. If you're in the tower part of the hotel, the rooms are lovely. The only negative thing I have to say is that we wanted to have an aperitif outside in the afternoon. We waited for a while and no one came. One waitress who was preparing tables for dinner was quite rude and bothered by me asking her when we could be served. Breakfast buffet is quite limited for the price (25EUR i think).
Again, rooms and location are really great. Maybe it was a bad day for them. I'd still go back.
Disappointing Communication and Misleading Information
We were initially thrilled to have booked a two-night stay at this hotel, opting for the Nature Break package that included Breakfast and Dinner. However, our experience quickly took a turn for the worse. In the confirmation email, it stated that 'breakfast and lunch' were included instead of dinner. Perplexed, we reached out to confirm our reservation, only to receive a short and dismissive response stating, "In your package, you don't have dinner included; you have only lunch!"
Naturally, we expressed our disagreement with this explanation since the reservation clearly stated 'dinner,' and we even provided a screenshot from their website as evidence. To our surprise, a few minutes later, we noticed that they had conveniently changed 'dinner' to 'meal' on their website. We took a screenshot of their website and sent it to them.. In their subsequent email, we received an unprofessional reply stating, "It is called like that, but I have sent our confirmation, and it is written lunch!" The response was poorly written, lacked any professional courtesy, and was devoid of a simple greeting.
We specifically chose the option for 'dinner' because it was indicated that way on their website. We preferred dinner as it would be in the evening, allowing us the freedom to explore during the day without being tied to a specific location for lunch.
Aside from this glaring issue, we were highly disappointed with their overall communication. It was incredibly customer-unfriendly and fell far below the standards one would expect from a hotel of this caliber. As the owner of a spa center, where we greatly value the goodwill and professionalism of our staff, it is disheartening to see one individual tarnish the reputation of such a beautiful establishment.
Unfortunately, despite our attempts to address the matter directly with the management, our email received no response. It is a shame that no one from the management took the time to engage in a discussion regarding this matter. We had hoped for a more constructive resolution.
Given these circumstances, we have decided to look forward to our upcoming trip and seek accommodations elsewhere. It is regrettable that our experience with this hotel has been marred by misleading information and poor communication.
A distinct lack of interest from the staff and no focus on customer service - Sorry to say the service levels were quite poor, the place was understaffed and we were left wanting, Could'nt get a drink, coffee or any snacks outside of the lunch and dinner service - both of which were formal sit down affairs. The chateau part of the property is beautiful and then you have the modern addition that unfortunately spoils the whole aesthetic. The dinning room felt like a corporate canteen with bright lighting. Such a shame has the potential to be a stunning offering but they have got it wrong. All very average.
Location: amazing
Charme: incredible
Comfort: could be better (no plugs close by the bed, not enough staff to serve brkf, no sun beds available close by the pool…)
Wi-fi: totally absent - I am ok with no Wi-Fi in the XII century tower, but at least in the lobby it should work. It didn’t.
Cuisine: amazing but the chef shouts obscenities that are clearly audible from the lobby and suddenly the castle loses its charme.
No one was at the front desk for 20 min When we arrived. We just stayed in at Chateau de Massillan on May 24 & 25th -after riding our bicycles in Provence for my husbands big birthday and it was the worst hotel we stayed at after 14 days in France. We booked a Prestige room which was less than 200 sq ft. With 18 inches of hanging closet space. There is a trip hazard walking into the room. The tiles in the room are sticking out and loose a the floor. They would only give my husband and I = 1 key which is absurd. We could not turn the lights out without banging the light switch. The bathroom has only 2 bath towels and they refused to provide more. The pool we were told is not heated and we could not swim on May 24-25th,2023. When we tried to swim st the pool at the spa they wanted $30 Euros to use it= that’s outrageous! The breakfast had no service and the food was unacceptable. I would rate this no better than a 2 Star - Chateau at best! Lastly, we asked to upgrade and they refused since most of the rooms are the same poor quality. Very disappointed, try another resort!
